Service Is Good For The Soul

Welcome!

Okay, so a lot of religions and spiritual practices say that sacrifice and service is good for the soul. Humilty and a sense of freedom and self worth...these are just some of the things that can be gained by helping just a little bit each day to make our world a better place. I will add a list of sites and ideas to this site that will hopefully help light a fire under some of our butts (metaphorically of course).
There are a million things that we can do to better our world around us. The are many things that we can do to help others. I dont know about stopping the karmic cycle. But some of these ideas couldn't hurt the whole process! So have fun, and give back! And do not ever ever doubt that every single person has something special to give!

PETFINDER.COM

At Petfinder, you can find many different types of animals looking for all different types of situations. I have also met some pretty cool people through this site. It is one of the kinder ways that I know to adopt a pet.

Hands down, the best way to adopt is to go to your City Pound or local Humane Society. But if that is not for you, then Petfinder  is the next best thing.

I would like it to be made known, that I do not add the Sex Offender Registy Lists for people to use to hurt others. This is meant to be used as a tool..a way to be informed. I have spent time with my son on these sites, looking at the pictures of the people who live near him. This particular site I have found to be the most helpful.
Be safe(er)!

  • Get kids involved! Be it your little brother, niece, or child. Take them with you to vote, explain why it is a good idea to turn the lights off when leaving the room, dont leave the water running when they are brushing thier teeth.  Talk to them about race and gender bias. Let them know that every little bit helps a lot! Remeber to make it short! Especially for the younger ones, we as adults only have thier attention for a short amount of time.
  • Never forget that our kids are the future of America and the World.

National Grid Floe is great! You or your child can adopt a virtual polar bear and learn everyday tasks to help our planet while having fun! I have one myself!

  • Here is something that I think is kind of hard for a lot of people; Standing up for what we believe in. It is difficult to say to someone 'I am going to call the Humane Society or DCF' or other law enforcement. Some people can say it and some cannot. I think that it is important to stand up for those who may not be able to stand up for themselves. But, remember, that even if you dont want to fess up that it was you who did the telling....thats okay too. You can call anonymously now, so its cool! You can help someone and still feel safe in the process. Taking chances is hard but very worth it.
  • Your actions could safe a life. Or you could prevent someone's from being damaged beyond repair. We all have a responsiblility to the world around us. We are all a part of this world.Together.

  • Getting a new cell phone? You can donate your old one to a church. You can also donate them to your local women's group or a shelter. A lot of places use them for crisis centers. Or maybe for a parishener that is need of one for one reason or another.

  • You can finger print your kids at home using an ink pad that you can buy from your local Staples store. Also be sure to take an updated picture at least every 3 months. Keep this in a place where you can find them quickly. In the event that your child cannot be found these things can be utilized by the police department in your town. Also, recent and up to date videos that show how your child moves and speaks can be helpful.

Partnership for Perscription Assistance

Partnership for Prescription Assistance..you can look up and compare different plans that may be helpful to you or a relative! No matter what the Gov't says,,,many of us cannot afford our prescriptions.

Some Soul Soothing ideas:
All hospitals have volunteers. There are more slots open in the fall since a lot of students go back to school after volunteering for summer. They have all sorts of positions available. Just call the main number of a hospital in your area and ask about volunteering!

Another great place to volunteer is a nursing home. So many of our grandparents spend thier last months in nursing facilities. A lot of these folks have no families. There are many facilities in all areas. Just call and ask what you can do....read to them? Maybe bring in a movie to watch with some of the people...maybe just look at them when they talk.....I think that this is huge and greatly rewarding.

Getting rid of old sheets and towels that aren't quite up to Salvation Army sandards? You can bring them to the Humane Society or your vets office. They are always looking for extra towels for the cages and to help clean. Another alternative is to donate them to a nearby shelter.

Let someone get in front of you in line at the grocery store and do not feel impatient or resentful about it. You may just have restored that perons faith in humanity....you never know!

Please write with any new ideas or sites to add to the list. I will review them and then add them right onto the page!
Brightest Blessings!

There, now dont you feel better?
